Looking Back

Rev Murray and Marta Archibald-Fisher were led of the Lord in 2011 to begin a home Bible Study that focused on the Hebraic roots and Messianic themes of the Scriptures. Each week a group of believers gathered together and within a few months it became apparent that Abba Father was drawing together a vital Messianic K’hillah (congregation) from all over the Lower Mainland.

Marta, herself a Messianic Jew, had earlier emigrated from Europe and was one of the few surviving descendants of Rabbi Avraham Adler and Johanna Fisher – the vast majority of whose family had perished in the holocaust. It was during her university studies in Winnipeg – through a tragic house fire – that Marta heard the good news of the Saviour. Under the care and counsel of a local Pastor Murray Archibald, Marta became a believer in her Jewish Messiah, Yeshua. In time, both Murray and Marta realized that God’s plan for them was to marry and to serve Him together as pastoral couple.

Their calling and ministry to plant the K’hillah (congregation) – Shabbat Shel Shalom Messianic Fellowship – has been truly blessed of God. Today, our family of faith is a community of more than 100 believers from throughout the British Columbia Fraiser Valley and from across the international boundary in the Whatcom County of Washington State.
